Asia-Pacific Trade Facilitation Forum 2009
on 25-26 November 2009 at United Nations Conference Center Bangkok, Thailand.
Backgraound
This Forum aims to promote trade facilitation as an important component
of a comprehensive strategy for national and regional development. The
Forum will provide an open regional platform to exchange information,
experiences and practices for trade facilitation in Asia-Pacific,
identify priority areas for regional cooperation and integration, and
learn about new tools and services which can increase the efficiency of
cross-border transactions and ultimately improve the competitiveness of
firms in the region. The Forum intends to strengthen regional
cooperation and coordination of technical assistance and capacity
building in trade facilitation. Participants will include government
officials, traders and public and private service providers from
Central Asia, South, Southeast and East Asia as well as the South
Pacific.
Objectives
- Enable sharing of experiences and knowledge on trade facilitation between countries of the region
- Foster increased understanding and exchange of views between public and private stakeholders
- Learn about and draw lessons from on-going implementation of regional trade facilitation initiatives
- Identify
recurring or emerging challenges in key areas of trade facilitation
(Transit, computerization and automation; and Supply- chain security
and risk management) and evolve a regional agenda for action
- Introduce
relevant international tools, instruments, and facilities aimed at
increasing the efficiency of regional and global cross-border trade. More >>>

The Workshop "Overcome Economic Crisis, Approach to a Dynamic Greater Mekong Subregion" on 30 November 2009 in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The purpose of the workshop is to improve understanding of the development cooperation between GMS Countries, introduce opportunity for GMS Development Cooperation, and identify financial assistance prirotity of development partners.

13th Meeting of the GMS Subregional Transport Forum
Siem Reap City, Cambodia
27-28 October 2009
Asian Developmen Bank will organize the 13th Meeting of the GMS Subregional Transport Forum at Siem Reap City, Cambodia on 27-28 October 2009.
On behalf of Greater Mekong Subregion Business Forum (GMS-BF) Mr. Paul Apthorp, Board of Director of GMS-BF, Strategy Development, TNT Express Worldwide N.V. and Mr. Eugene Cody, Board of Director of GMS-BF, General Manager, Toll Logistic (Cambodia) will attend the 13th Meetin of the GMS Subregional Transport Forum. The program for the meeting and information note are attached.
Meeting Theme: Toward the Development of an integrated GMS Railway NEtwork for Greater Connectivity
Objectives:
1. To review the Draft Report on the GMS Railway Strategy Study, which aims to produce a strategy and plan for the development of an integrated railway network that enhances connectivity within the GMS and with neighboring subregions.
2. To review the progress of the transport projects contained in the Vientiane Plan of Action for GMS Development (2008-2012).
3. To further review and prioritize key GMS transport projects in light of recent developments and issues in the GMS.

Opening Ceremony Cross Border Transport Along GMS East West Corridors
The opening ceremony on the transport agreement operation was held simultaneously in Mukdahan, Thailand; Savannakhet, Lao PDR; and Lao Bao, Vietnam on 11 June 2009 to promote transport and trade facilitation. Commercial trucks from Lao PDR, Thailand, and Vietnam are, for the first time, able to efficiently pick up and deliver goods in each other's territory along the East-West Corridor under the subregional traffic rights system and subreional customs guranteeing system, established by the GMS Cross-Border Transport Agreement. Jean-Pierre Verbiest, Country Director, Thailand Resident Mission delivered opening remark together with senior governmental officials to congratulate this landmark event. More>>>
