The EWEC represents the first international standard sea -land -sea transport route connecting Vietnam (Port of Da Nang) to Lao PDR and Thailand and Myanmar, exiting on the Andaman Sea.
In June 2005, at the UN Conference Centre in Bangkok, 200 attendees heard presentation on the range of financing, legal, cross-border transit and regulatory issues which would be faced in developing the EWEC.
 
IN THIS SECOND EWEC CONFERENCE, THE GREATER MEKONG SUBREGION BUSINESS FORUM, IN ASSOCIATION WITH ADB AND UN ESCAP, WILL FOCUS ON THE UPGRADING REQUIRED TO ENSURE THE EWEC MEETS INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS AS A TRADE-TRANSPORT ROUTE.
